Kaduna police command yesterday in its press briefing of their activities in the state paraded 24 robbery suspects who were involved in various robbery activities in the past three months.
Parading the suspects at the police command, the commissioner of police Ballah Magaji Nassarawa said, within the period under review, items recovered from the arm robbery suspects includes, two dane guns, 177 AK47 riffle live ammunitions, pump action gun, Barrette revolver pistols, knifes, cutlasses of various designs, charms, bow and arrows, as well as several locally made pistols.
Nassarawa said five vehicles in the maker of Toyota Corolla with registration number AE 329 GRZ, Honda Hennessy, Honda civic car, Honda CRV with Registration JA 64 ANC and a Toyota Primera were intercepted and recovered at various armed robbery incidence. Also recovered were four unregistered Jinchen motorcycles.
According to the police boss in the state, the sum of over seven 740,000 naira including foreign currencies, laptop computers, cam coders, digital cameras, 19 assorted handsets, over 70 women wrappers, jewelleries, Elemax generator, satellite dish, bags , DvD players, 24 inch television, military bio net, army uniforms among others were recovered.
Ballah also stated that those arrested with Indian hemp and suspected substances in the form of cocaine where handed over to the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) alongside the exhibits.
He said, some of the criminal suspects were arrested at various points of criminal activities including armed robbery scene, raids of black spots, road stops and check points and those involved in the manufacturing of locally made arms. He however added that some of the suspects lost their lives in the process of either attempting to escape or exchange of bullets with men of the police force.
LEADERSHIP WEEKEND spoke to some of the suspects, Dikko Magaji, 24-year-old resident of Shanu Village in Niger State, who is a fabricator of locally made arms said; he learnt how to construct locally made pistols from his elder brother Emmanuel Magaji of the same address who was equally arrested.
Isaac Bulus specialises in the use of fake army uniforms to commit various crimes, while Kenneth Ezenwa specialises in the purchase of stolen items. Muhammed Auta alias Danbaki says he was involved in the snatching of vehicles.
However, CP Nassarawa has called on the public to keep the police abreast of useful information that will assist them in the discharge of their responsibilities.
