Bauchi State governor, Isa Yuguda, Friday swore in 16 commissioners and 20 advisers as members of the state executive council.
? Former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Faggo, who lost his bid to return to the House in the April general elections, was one the new cabinet members.
Yuguda also swore in 19 local government caretaker chairmen, while the 20th person was absent on health grounds.
Shortly after the appointees took the oath of office, the governor said that the commissioners and advisers were chosen on merit.
He said that the cabinet members were personally selected by him unlike in the last dispensation when most of the former commissioners and advisers were imposed on him by his political associates.
He urged the new appointees to be patriotic and diligent in their responsibilities and warned them against selfishness.
“Your position is not for profit making but to deliver social responsibility to the people,’’ he said, and warned them against erecting barriers between them and the people.
Yuguda also told the caretaker chairmen to always liaise with their respective state assembly representatives to identify and report any development ideas to government. He called on them to be tolerant while dealing with people at the grassroots, considering that the state government would soon embark on the creation of new districts which would involve a lot of challenges.
On Aug. 8, the governor submitted a list of 18 nominees to the State House of Assembly for appointment as commissioners, but the House rejected two nominees.
Those rejected were the immediate past commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Bukata Bayero, and Yuguda’s Special Adviser on Education and Social Re-orientation, Malam Salisu Shehu. ?
