The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Rivers State has threatened to sue Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi if he fails to back down from his proposed plan to purchase a new aircraft for the state.
The ACN also threatened to head for the court to challenge the state public procurement law, 2008, which it alleged empowers the governor to spend about 30 percent of the annual budget of the state on projects without being questioned.
The party’s publicity secretary, Mr. Jerry Needam told journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday that State House of Assembly as well as the leader of the House, Hon. Chidi Julius Lloyd would be joined in the two suits.
Needam said that the ACN decided to go to court because it believed that the plan to purchase a new aircraft was an insensitive and bogus ambition of Amaechi to secure a private jet for his personal safety at the expense of the people of the state.
“We are planning to head for the court very soon unless Governor Amaechi backs down from his ambition to secure for himself a private jet for his personal safety and security at the expense of Rivers people. ?
