The Borno State chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Alhaji Othman Mala, yesterday called on those fleeing Maiduguri as a result of the security challenges in the state to return home.
Mala, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri, said that the call became necessary because normalcy had returned to the city.
He said that the committee recently constituted by the federal government to look into the crises rocking some parts of the country, including Borno, had begun work and would soon succeed in its reconciliation drive.
The ANPP chairman expressed concern at the way residents of Maiduguri metropolis massively deserted the state capital in the heat of the crisis occasioned by bombings and arson committed by the fundamentalist Boko Haram sect.
He noted that the mass exodus of residents had adversely affected every aspect of life in Borno, and called on them to return since there was no better place like home.
“Nobody is happy with the unfortunate incidents that took place in the state capital, but we are appealing to you to come back because no matter where you reside in someone else’s land, your home is the best.’’
Mala gave assurance that the state government would compensate all those whose property were destroyed in the attacks.
He advised the people of the state to be law-abiding and to eschew violence to forestall future occurrences.
