Senate President, David Mark, has appealed to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former military President Ibrahim Babangida to sheath their swords in the interest of the nation.
Marks appeal was contained in a statement signed by special adviser, Media & Publicity, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, to the Senate President yesterday in Abuja.
It said that Mark urged the former presidents, who are elder statesmen to restrain from making further inflammatory remarks.
The statement noted that such remarks were capable of destroying all the efforts they had sunk into building the nation.
“As statesmen, you cannot afford to resolve your differences on the pages of newspapers. You have contributed immensely to the growth and development of this nation.
“Your responsibility is to advice those coming after you on the challenges confronting our nation today and in the future,’’ it said.
Mark also cautioned followers of the two former presidents not to expand the horizon of the disagreement, adding, “we should continue to pray for peaceful co-existence among all’’.
The two former presidents have been engaged in war of words on the pages of newspapers recently with accusations and counter-accusations.
