A human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, has told accountants to tackle the endemic corruption in Nigeria.
Falana made the call at the investiture of the 10th President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) in Lagos on Saturday.
According to him, accountants should be concerned about the sale of public enterprises at give-away prices.
“As at now, 122 enterprises were sold in our country at $100 billion, the same amount the government used to establish the companies.
He said that Nigerians should demonstrate more than passing interests as to how sales of such public enterprises were done.
“With the recent passage of the Freedom of Information Bill (FOI), Nigerians can make comments on issues that are of concern to them,” he said.
He also decried the jumbo salaries paid to lawmakers in the country.
“The N1.7 million salary earned monthly by each Senator is overwhelming the finances of the country,” he added. (NAN)
