The federal government has assured that it is committed to restoring the lost glory of Kaduna Polytechnic, just as it commended the return of normalcy to the institution
Minister of Education Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i stated this while receiving members of the executive council of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Kaduna Polytechnic chapter, who paid her a thank you visit in her office.
She noted that the federal government had been worried about the prolonged closure of the institution, but expressed satisfaction with the prevailing peaceful atmosphere since the resumption of academic activities in the school.
Earlier, chairman of ASUP, Kaduna Polytechnic chapter, Mustapha Yahaya Bida, had commended the swift intervention of the minister while the strike lasted, which put the institution on the path of redemption.
He was apologetic over the prolonged strike, saying though it was not the wish of the union to embark on the strike action, it became necessary as a last resort to salvage the institution from total collapse.
According to him, the actions and steps taken by the minister had restored confidence in the system, and appealed to her to facilitate speedy implementation of issues raised in the White Paper of the visitation panel to the institution and to see to the prosecution of the ousted rector.
The delegation also enjoined the minister to facilitate the actualisation of the conversion of the polytechnic to a university and urged her on the need to secure the financial bailout of the institution.
