Abdulsalami Blames Africa, Arab Crises On Leaders

Former Head of state General Abdulsalami Abubakar has attributed the upsurge in protest against governments of Asia and Africa to long tolerance of the people in bondage even as he said the crisis in Libya would not have escalated to its present level if advice from the Africa Union AU were taken.

?

Abdulsalami who spoke to journalists yesterday in his hill top residence after he received a Special representative of the United Nations secretary General in Liberia Mrs Ellen Magarethe Loj on advisory visit, said the people were kept in long bondage and have been strengthened to react the way they were reacting.

?

He said that what was going on was a product of the government not given the people the freedom as well as the right to exercise in the affair of the country.

The former Head of state said “so this is the effect when you keep people in Bondage when you don’t give them their right to exercise their freedom”

?

“To an extent there is more to be done in democratizing Africa I can say things are little bit better in Africa than what is happening in these Arab countries, people would definitely fight for their freedom, that is exactly what is happening in the Arab world now” he stated.

?

He therefore admonished African Leaders to be transparent and ensure good governance in order not allow the situations in the continent to degenerate to an uncontrollable level.

?

On the position of Nigeria government in recognising the Transitional council of the rebel in Libya the former Head of state who led several mediation talks to Liberia, Sudan and some other African countries said “I blame the international community for not listening to Africa Union, Africa Union has charted a way forward to solving Libya crisis”

?

“But the International community in their own wisdom and their own interest decided to Ignore African Union and went ahead to do what they did in carrying out the bombing Mission in Libya thereby bringing us to where we are today” he added
