Osun State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has described the suspension of Justice Ayo Salami as the president of Court of Appeal as bad development in the country’s democratic system, which portends serious danger in our judicial arms of government.
The state ACN chairman who made this known yesterday while speaking with journalists in Osogbo, maintained that the purported suspension was a tragic dimension in the political history of the country, adding that NJC that is supposed to be at the vanguard of promoting the rule of law and justice has turned itself to contemnor.
The party also said that the decision by President Goodluck Jonathan to endorse in totality, the recommendation of the National Judicial Council, to suspend Salami and consequently approve the swearing in of an acting president represented the peak of recklessness in the use of power.
“We at the ACN in Osun State are miffed by this brazen disregard for the due process in the administration of justice. The NJC and the Presidency have sent wrong signals to Nigerians and the world at large that miscarriage of justice is a fashion in Nigeria.
“We hereby note that these and other shameful acts are the factors that count against our country in the estimation of the civilized world. If we are not interested in returning to the comity of pharaoh nations, the decision to suspend Salami must be rescinded,” Adebiyi stated.
While urging President Goodluck Jonathan to take a second look at the matter, the ACN boss advised the President against succumbing to pressure to members of his party, whom he accused of misleading him.
