In what could be regarded as a black Friday, a suspected suicide bomber attacked the United Nations (UN) House in Abuja, leaving a one-year-old and 39 others dead with over 200 injured, just as workers and visitors to the building were trapped there. But one of our correspondents counted 20 bodies at the scene of the incident.

Leadership weekend checks revealed that the bomber, who was driving in a Honda Accord car marked Kano AV 38NSR, entered the premises through the exit gate at about 10.30a.m. pulled down the gate and rammed the car into the reception area.

According to an eyewitness, the UN House was thrown into confusion following the resounding explosion as people ran in different directions, in a bid to get out of the building.

Not a few persons, leadership weekend source said, abandoned their belongings including mobile phones, hand bags and car keys in desperate bids to escape from the impact of the explosion.
