In a bid to rid the Federal Capital Territory of shanties, the Deputy Director of Monitoring and Enforcement; Development Control Department of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, (AMMC) Mr Tukur Bakori has cautioned developers to desist from erecting on already demolished plots as the department was set to arrest and prosecute anybody caught building on such illegal settlements.
?
This was even as he warned that the department would henceforth surcharge any illegal developer whose buildings were pulled down by his organisation, and added that it was a criminal offence to rebuild such structures.

Bakori gave the warning in Abuja yesterday during an exclusive chat with LEADERSHIP SUNDAY, and said that the Senator Bala-led administration had designed policies aimed at addressing the anomalies accompanied with illegal settlement.
He stressed that, the administration of Senator Bala Mohammed was trying to come up with a policy to arrest and prosecute defaulters. “When we remove, we will even surcharge the developer for removing the structures, and when they eventually build it back, we arrest and prosecute the person because he is a criminal”, he said.
