Heartland right-back, Chibuzor Okonkwo, is a big doubt for Super Eagles, Madagascar Sunday 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
This is because he is currently away trying out with Ukraine Premier League side, FC Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih.
The 22-year-old has been with the Ukrainian side since last week under the assessment of FC Kryvbas head coach, Yuriy Maksymov. He was said to have impressed Maksymov and could seal a contract barring any last-minute hitch.
The former Bayelsa United man is now one of the players yet to beat yesterday’s deadline handed out by Samson Siasia ahead of the team’s departure for Antananarivo tomorrow. “Chibuzor Okonkwo is at present on trials in Ukraine. As far as I know he’s been with them since last week and he may not make the trip to Madagascar. I don’t know if Coach Samson Siasia is aware of Okonkwo’s trip. But it might just be difficult for him to meet the deadline of joining camp except he’s been given permission to join in Antananarivo,” a close confidant told Supersport.com.
The likely absence of Okonkwo now leaves Siasia with Elderson Echiejile, Joseph Yobo, Efe Ambrose, Dele Adeleye and Danny Shittu as defenders for the clash at Mahamasina Stadium in Antananarivo.
