As Nigerian joins the rest of the moslem world in celebrating the Eid-el-Fitri marking the end of the Ramadan fasting , the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal has urged Nigerians to eschew violence even as he decried the terrorist attack on the United Nations’ building in Abuja. He also enjoined them to eschew all acts capable of undermining peace and unity of the country.
Tambuwal who spoke in a press statement signed by his Principal Information Officer, Ismaila Uba-Misilli yesterday also wished Nigerians irrespective of their tribe and religion a peaceful Sallah celebration.
“The celebration calls for sober reflection and therefore we must reflect on the spiritual upliftment we achieved within the holy month and continue to exhibit good character and extend hands of fellowship to all irrespective of our difference.” The statement read.
Also, Tambuwal described at the UN building as an `unpardonable act of terrorism against the state and humanity’. He urged the perpetrators to stop further attacks and embrace peace.
“For Nigerians to draw from the benefits sustained democratic practice has impacted on the nation since 1999, every citizen irrespective of ethnic, religious or political affiliations must subject him or herself to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
