The Chief Imam of Dobi mosque, Alhaji Adamu Baba, has called for unity among Nigerians irrespective of tribe and religion to enhance peaceful co-existence.
Baba who made the call in his sallah sermon at Dobi, near Gwagwalada, also called for prayers for the leadership of the country especially at this trying time of violence in some parts of the country.
Also speaking shortly after the Eid prayer, the chairman of Gwagwalada area council, Alhaji Zakari Angulu, urged Muslims to imbibe the spirit of prayers for Nigeria to address the security challenges currently being faced in the country.
Angulu further counselled Muslims to continue to put the lessons of the Ramadan in their daily activities and stressed the need to continue to be closer to God after the fasting period.
He said, “Ordinarily, no individual would like to stay away from food for 29 days except on absolute compliance with our religious believes. As such, I am calling on every Muslim to ensure that the advantage of the 29 days of fasting is used for the benefit of our individual lives and the country in general.
“I therefore urge every Muslim to continue to pray for the peace and unity of the country especially during this trying time of increasing rate of insecurity,” he said.
The council boss attributed the increasing rate of crime and violence in some parts of the country to youth unemployment and pledged the commitment of his administration towards embarking on programmes aimed at addressing youth unemployment in the council.
“We are coming up with a programme aimed at enhancing youth employment, shortly after the sallah celebration and I can assure you that a good number of youth would be engaged in the program. The essence of this is to identify areas of specialisation among the youth and empower them, by making funds available to them to ensure that they become self reliant,” he added.
