The Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has ordered that immediate rescue work commences at the failed portions of the Akure/ Owo/Benin expressway where about 32 souls perished in a multiple accident earlier in the week pending when the Federal Government will move to the site.
Mimiko, who had earlier visited the scene on his way to Abuja on Tuesday, revisited the failed spots on Thursday alongside state officials including officials of the State Ministry of Works and ordered the immediate commencement of work on the failed spots in order to stop a reoccurrence of such unfortunate incident.
The Governor who betrayed emotion at the scene of the accident described the situation of the road as deplorable and unacceptable.
It would be recalled that when the administration on assumption of office in 2009, repaired portions of the express road from the end of the road up to Ogbese on the same road due to its deplorable state too at the time.
Similar intervention exercises had been carried out on federal roads in the state by the administration as virtually all federal government roads in the state have been abandoned in their frightful conditions while harried commuters plying the routes to the Eastern and Northern parts of the country are often heard complaining bitterly and heaping blames on the state government often, being ignorant of the fact that the roads are indeed federal ones.
