Six Killed, 8 Injured As Solders, Youths Clash In Borno

The driver of the deputy speaker of Borno State House of Assembly Honorable Danlami Gamandi? and six others were killed, while eight others were? injured in Biu local government Borno State last Friday night in a clash between some youths and soldiers from a military formation in Biu town. Residents of the area told our reporter yesterday.

Last month a clash between soldiers and some youths over the arrest of some Islamic teachers left a nursing mother dead.
Our corresspondent gathered from eye witnesses that trouble started when some gunmen shot and killed a soldier attached to the military formation at the Tashar Gandu area of the town.

According to witnesses, this prompted the colleagues of the dead soldier to go on rampaged and start firing at people.
During the raid about thirty cars and several shops were said to have been set ablaze by the rampaging soldiers.?? ?
The chairman of the local government, Yusuf Adamu denied that a soldier was killed, according to him, troubled started when soldiers heard rumor that one of their colleagues was killed and they went on rampage.

He disclosed that five people were killed including the driver of the deputy speaker of the Borno state House of Assembly, Honorable Danlami Gamandi who was on his way to Gombe to pick his boss who just returned from Umurah.

According to him, eight other people were injured and they were taken to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and Federal Medical centre, Gombe.
Adamu also alleged that the soldiers burnt down about thirty vehicles and some shops in the town.?? ?

The council chairman who expressed shock over the incident said the situation has been brought under control by relevant security agencies.
The National president of Biu forum, while commenting on the incident appealed to the federal government to set up a committee to look into the crises in order to bring an end to the reoccurring clash between soldiers and youths.

?When the Joint Task Force (JTF), spokesman Lieutenant Colonel, Hassan Mohammed was contacted he said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
