The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has described the last 100 days of the current administration as showing little or nothing to convince Nigerians that President Goodluck Jonathan has what it takes to transform the country as promised.
Appraising the state of the nation in a statement issued in Lagos yesterday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, ACN likened the events in the last 100 days to building a structure on sand rather than on rock – a futile effort that would not endure. It taunted the Jonathan administration on the single term for president proposal, saying it was his only achievement.
While admitting that an appraisal of a government for just 100 days might not be reasonable, the ACN urged the president to begin the process of laying the right foundation for the country’s development by being more decisive in his action.
It said: ‘’In his inaugural speech, the president exhorted Nigerians to ‘look beyond the hardship you have endured. See a new beginning; a new direction; a new spirit’. Unfortunately, the President’s unsteady gait, as well as his trade-mark indecision on critical issues in the past 100 days, do not point to a new spirit or a new beginning,” the party wrote.
‘’The President told Nigerians on May 29 that ‘I am mindful that I represent the shared aspiration of all our people to forge a united Nigeria: a land of justice, opportunity and plenty.’ But the unity of Nigeria has never been more threatened than it is under his watch, and the country is still far from being a land of justice.’’
It urged the president to work towards addressing the issue of insecurity as enunciated in his inaugural speech, as it was adversely affecting the country growth and development.
