Mining Is the Engine Room Of Nigeria’s Wealth —Perm Sec

The outgoing permanent secretary to the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development Elizabeth Emuren has said the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development is the engine room that would bring much wealth to Nigeria.
Elizabeth who spoke while handing over to the new permanent secretary Alhaji Adamu Kuta at the Ministries headquarter yesterday said “This is a sector that people do not know much about and that is why I am happy that you are coming to help expose what the country is blessed with”

She said “It is the sector that produces all the minerals in the 36 states of the country including the Federal Capital and urged the new PS to help the country tap into the resources available”
She added that though the sector had not contributed much to the nations GDP, the presence of the new perm sec, as well as past efforts by herself and other staff members would ensure they help the country tap into its resources”

The former Perm sect recalled that “During her time she had been able to do a lot of things in collaboration with the minister including putting the mining regulation in place, sensitizing the sector and many other increases that would make the sector enviable when it matures”
Elizabeth called on the FG to improve funding for the sector, provide vehicles and better motivation especially for staff in the outstation as they had worked committedly to improve the sector.”

Excited by her reposting, she maintained that” she had worked with the best hands in the sector and urged them to give the same support to the new perm sec, adding that she hoped to build on what her predecessor had started in the her ministry”
Meanwhile the new Perm sec. Alhaji ? Kuta emphasised that he was coming with an open mind to continue the pursuit of his career as a civil servant.

Kuta who was received by Directors, Assistant Directors and other heads of departments and parastatals called on his new colleagues to accept him not just as colleagues but friend.
He added that “the dividing line between the Directors and the perm secretary was just a thin line, as any hardworking director could be promoted”.
