Jonathan Orders Varsity Authorities To Curb Violence

?

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday ordered the National Universities Commission NUC to bring an end to violence which he said has reduced the quality of degrees from most universities.
?
The president who gave this order yesterday during the Passing out Parade (POP) of the 58 Regular Course Cadet of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna ?which was held under tight security stated ?promising that all those found to be engaged in violence would not escape justice.?
According to Jonathan “Those who seek to violate national security and peace must be told in clear terms that government would spare no effort in making it impossible for them to achieve their dastardly goal. We will ensue that they do not escape justice and punishment”.
?
?The president who disclosed that his administration placed premium on National security, peace and development noted that it was for this reason that his administration was putting in every measure to ensure peace and harmony existed everywhere.
?“As the Commandant of the NDA has mentioned, these cadets were awarded these degrees because they have been found worthy both in character and in learning. Character came first. The NDA is an outfit known for its disciple and learning. I therefore believe that all the graduating cadets really merit their certificates.?
?
“But I am sorry to say that is not the case for most Nigerian tertiary institutions. How can a student who used an axe or a cutlass on another be worthy of that certificate when it comes to character. How can a cult member be qualified for his degree? I even hear that in some schools lecturers write thesis and dissertations for their students. There is huge failure of morality in our schools today. I hope the National Universities Commission NUC would do something about this”?

Five Nigerians were awarded honorary doctorate degrees by the University. They are: The Sultan of Sokoto, Alh Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke, Senator Jubril Aminu, ?Gov. Godswill ?Akpabio and National Security Adviser, Gen Andrew Azazi.?
