I am not hiding — Shehu Sani, The last interview given out by Babakura Alhaji Fugu, brother in-law of the late leader of the Boko Haram,Mohammed Yusuf was yesterday released by an online media.
The audio released was a pre-interview arrangement record before he was shot death, in which he said he had never met former President Olusegun Obasanjo, before Thursday.
Fugu was killed on Saturday afternoon by an unknown man barely 24 hours after playing host to Obasanjo in their Maiduguri residence. He was involved in an bid to find lasting solutions to the uprising arising from the extra-judicial killing of late Mohammed Yusuf and Fugu’s father, Alhaji Baba Fugu Mohammed.
Fugu according to the audio LEADERSHIP monitored stated that the meeting was made possible by Comrade Shehu Sani. He said it was Sani who brought Obasanjo, adding, “I have never met him”.
When he was asked whether he had internet connection in his house so he could send his picture to the media which was organising a live discussion with him, Fugu said, “No, no, I don’t have it but my phone has internet connection.”
While promising to send the picture, he also said, “My full name is Babakura Alhaji Fugu and the son of Alhaji Baba Fugu Mohammed. Alhaji Baba Fugu Mohammed is the father –in-law of Mohammed Yusuf”.
Meanwhile, civil rights crusader and pro-democracy activist, Malam Shehu Sani, said yesterday that contrary to media reports, he was not hiding in spite of the fact that his life was being threatened.
The activist said he would continue to make efforts to restore lasting peace to the northern part of the country, not minding the unfortunate incident that led to the assassination of Fugu.
Sani had said that “the unfortunate incident (the killing of Babakura) is a serious setback. Hardly can people be encouraged now to continue to find a lasting solution to the Boko Haram’s crisis. But, the process must continue.”
He advised those who love the peace and unity of the country not to be discouraged by what happened, and continue the process of dialogue in resolving the crisis.
