Leading Pan-African conglomerate, the Dangote Group, has donated N100m to the Lagos State government to assist in the rehabilitation of the victims of the recent flood disaster in the state.
President of the group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, made the donation when he led a team of the management of the group to the Marina, Lagos State Government House yesterday.
He said the contribution was a response to the clarion call by the state government in the wake of the last July 10, flooding in the state that public spirited individuals and organisations should come to the aid of the government to compliment developmental efforts, especially in tackling the issue of recent flooding and rehabilitation of the victims.
Dangote explained that the business community in Lagos were happy with Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and his administration on the grounds that there were evidence that the taxes being paid were being used judiciously.
He said, “When taxes are increased, the people may initially grumbled but when they see that the money is being used judiciously and their tax is working, they will be happy and they will be ready to pay without prompting.”
In his remark after receiving the N100m cheque, Fashola thanked Dangote and his group for always wanting to assist the Lagos State government even without any request, noting that the public spirit of the Dangote group was worthy of emulation by others.
