According to sources within the Nigerian Football Federation, the chief coach of the National U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, John Obuh, has started wooing the Nigeria Football Federation to allow him commence preparations for the 2013 edition of the World Cup. The source told LEADERSHIP SPORTS that Coach Obuh has already prepared a programme for the competition and is impatiently waiting to submit the programme for the relevant authority to study and make recommendations.
John Obuh has been one of the most successful youth team coaches the NFF has ever employed. He took the National U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets to the finals of the World Cup on home soil, losing to an inspired Switzerland. He also has the distinction of winning the African U-20 Championships and took the same team to the Quarter- finals of the U-20 World Cup, losing to France in the quarter-finals.
Stakeholders and football administrators have always harped on the fact that Nigeria always prepares late for major competitions and that if the relevant authorities prepare early, our teams will be up there amongst the best always. Obuh seems to be knocking on the door of early preparations so as to avoid the pitfalls of his predecessors.
