The Chief of Army Staff, (COAS), Lt-Gen.? Azubuike Ihejirika, has drawn a distinction between promotion in the military and traditional titles, saying it is not similar to chieftaincy title.
?
Ihejirika, who drew the distinction on Friday in Abuja during the decoration of nine officers who were promoted to various ranks, called on newly-promoted officers to see their elevation as a call to duty.
?
One officer was promoted to the rank of Colonel while eight others were elevated to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonels.
“This promotion should not be seen as another chieftaincy title, but it? should? be seen? as a call to duty, particularly at this time when Nigeria is in need of patriotic citizens who will take their jobs seriously and deliver.
?
“With the training and experience you have acquired,? you are in a position to advise those of us in the higher echelon the measures to take to ensure the security of this country.’’
?
The COAS said the promotion was significant because the officers had entered the senior rank structure of the army.
He added that? the officers decorated were those serving in Abuja and its immediate environs, saying that others would be decorated in other divisions by their commanders.
