Those bent on scheming against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, have been asked to have a rethink by the South East Revival Group, SERG, will not allow Anyim to be a victim of needless power play, for the second time.

Coordinator general of the group, Chief Willy Ezeugwu, in a release made available to LEADERSHIP, said that reports that alleged that the SGF had been queried by? President Goodluck Jonathan was not only false but also disappointing, and that those responsible were “Employing propaganda as a means of discrediting and distracting Senator Anyim from contributing his quota to national development.

“When the people of the entire South East nominated Chief Anyim,? the president was commended for acknowledging his nomination, and since then he has served with such humility that the office is now rated positively among Nigerians. That is why it is troubling to note that there are people who are bent on distracting him from performing his duties,’’ the group said.

Ezugwu alleged that a principal officer in the National Assembly, in collusion with his chief of staff, were part of those? who constituted distractions for Anyim, and added that they had taken to propaganda and desperacy in their bid to raise doubts about the SGF’s ability and loyalty.

“The SERG is also aware that these schemers have made contact with prominent Igbo leaders with the sole aim of conscripting them to join the ranks of detractors since they are desperate to disguise their activity as one which has the backing of the Igbo nation.

“It took some persuasion for? the South East to accept the position of the SGF, which we equated to sidelining the Igbo people. It is also on record that the Igbo people had the highest turnover of Senate presidents in the history of Nigeria, because of the dirty schemings that went on when the office was zoned to us. It is on that note that we sound a note of warning that no amount of scheming will bring us back to those dark days. Pius Anyim is the choice for the position of the SGF, which has been zoned to the South East,” Ezugwu’s statement read in part.
