Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has expressed displeasure over the mismanagement of state resources over the years.
The governor made his feeling known while inspecting some of the state owned properties in Kaduna where he attended the meeting of the northern traditional rulers.
While at the site of the Nasarawa State Governor’s lodge which is under construction he described the project as a monumental waste on the state’s lean resources.
Al-Makura further stated that, “this type of project is not the priority of a developing state like Nasarawa State struggling with poor infrastructures and basic amenities.”
He said that, he didn’t know what purpose the previous administration intended the place for but assured that he would try to complete it.
“Although the project is at an advance stage of completion,
I don’t know what the previous administration intended the place for, may be at the end, the government will discuss possibility of mortgage sale so that we can use the funds realised for other more pressing matters.
However, the governor noted that since “Kaduna is the nucleus and midwife of all other states in the north, Nasarawa will want to have something that will serve as a landmark, that will represent our interest in Kaduna as the mother of all states in the north.”
He also faulted the previous administration which he said gave out the Lagos liaison office which was meant for a residential accommodation to be used as a hotel which resulted into a running battle with the government of Lagos state over misuse of purpose clause.
Again at the old Nasarawa State liaison office which is also abandoned, he expressed disappointment and said that such a project should have been rehabilitated rather than being abandoned for a new one.
In a related development, Al-Makura said, “let us see ourselves as one people with one destiny, irrespective of our religious, tribal, ethnic and political backgrounds since we live together in one geographical location.”
Continuing, he said,“I therefore call on the people of Nasarawa State to come together for us to join hands and collaborate with one another and be patriotic in such a way that the business of lifting the state forward should be the business of everybody, and nobody should underrate the amount of efforts and inputs he can put to the well being of the state.”
Governor Al-Makura had earlier paid a solidarity visit to the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) having served as a broadcaster before. There he commended the programmes of FRCN which he said were aimed at promoting the unity of the country.
The deputy Director News and Current Affairs, Mallam Sani Suleiman who received him expressed the willingness to partner with the Nasarawa State government to promote its developmental programmes and subsequently feature in the popular programme, “Bakon mu Na Mako.”
