The Action Congress of Nigeria, Oyo State chapter, has described as untrue the claim by former Governor Rashidi Ladoja that the election of Governor Abiola Ajimobi would not have been possible but for God and the Accord Party (AP).
The party, in a statement issued yesterday in Ibadan by its state Publicity Secretary, Hon. Matthew Oyedokun, said that Ajimobi’s victory at the polls was made possible by God and the people of Oyo State not the Accord party.
The party emphasised that Ladoja ran for the election and he ran to win and wondered why he could now be attributing to himself Ajimobi’s victory which he worked assiduously to scuttle.
The party recalled the strenuous efforts made by some concerned individuals both within and outside the state to prevail on Ladoja to step down for Ajimobi and how it was rebuffed by the former governor, who claimed to have all the chances in the world to win the election.
“We recalled vividly how Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State visited Ladoja’s Bodija, Ibadan residence to appeal for his support for Ajimobi. Although the former governor tacitly dodged Aregbesola, his (Ladoja’s) wife was unequivocal that her husband would not have anything of such.
“While we rejoice with the former governor on the occasion of his birthday, we must, however, put the record straight so as not to allow the good people of Oyo State to be misled into taking an outright lie for a gospel truth.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Accord Party was never part of our victory; rather, it was made possible by God and the people of the state,’’ the party said.
