Governors Meet in Abuja

Thirty-six state governors under the aegis of Nigeria Governors forum yesterday met in Abuja over matters arising from the payment of minimum wage, sovereign wealth fund, petroleum subsidy and other issues.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala attended the meeting to brief the forum on some of the contentious issues, particularly, the SWF. Okonjo-Iweala arrived at the venue of the meeting at about 9.40pm.

The governors had hinted of their intention to sue the federal government over the implementation of the SWF, describing it as illegal.
Two days ago, the minister of finance had hinted that the ?SWF had come to stay, saying that the federal government was finalising the fund’s implementation framework.?

Other issues discussed at the meeting include deduction from states allocations which the northern governors frowned at recently.?
The governors also examined the revenue allocation formula which they had claimed would help to generate funds to handle the minimum wage demand.
Though the contentious fuel subsidy issue was still hazy as at the time of filing this report, it would be recalled that Okonjo-Iweala had hinted at the removal of the subsidy,

The governors also the discussed the issue of assessment of polio exercises in their different states and the need to take adequate measure over its implementation.
The meeting was attended by 24 governors and five deputy governors. It was presided over by Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
