Gombe State governor Ibrahim Dankwambo has directed the Vehicles Inspection Officers, (VIOs) and Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), as well as other related agencies to stop and prevent any trailer and tanker from plying Gombe city roads.
He also enjoined them to ensured that only road-worthy vehicles were allowed to ply roads within Gombe metropolis.
The directives came during the Gala-Night/ Dinner at Banquet Hall of Government House to mark the nation’s 51st Independent Anniversary and 15 years of creating the state .
Also and as a mark of respect for the victims of a tragic auto crash on Tashan-Dukku Motor Park, within Gombe metropolis that claimed many lives and property,
the government decided to cancel the other aspects o Independence cerebration.
Governor Dankwambo assured that government was committed to finding a lasting solution to the incidences of road mishaps within the city.
He said that before now, similar incidences had occurred and expressed worry that it was becoming a serious challenge to the government.
The State government, he said, had earlier declared free medical treatment to all the victims that sustained injury during the incident and also directed the security operatives to readjust road blocks in most of the roads close to motor parks or market places especially areas like Tasha-Dukku, Motor Park, around Gombe Line Motor Park, and Main Market.
The governor said that they were required to at least create five meters space and not allow again the erection of shops close to the road or allow street hawking near the road side.
Dankwambo said that already government has concluded the arrangement to construct barriers on some roads to prevent heavy trucks from coming into the town, except through the bye-pass already constructed by the federal government.
