Ananmbra State governor Peter Obi has called for Federal Government’s intervention in resuscitating collapsed industries in Anambra State.
Obi made the call when he received the Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Dr. Samuel Ortom, who paid a courtesy to the governor at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, weekend.
Obo reiterated the need to create a conducive environment to attract foreign investment by removing unnecessary bottlenecks and bureaucracy, and assured that the state would continue to give President Jonathan total support.
According to him, a strong industrial and manufacturing base was critical in the nation’s strive to achieve Vision 2020 as, according to him, the service sector cannot function effectively without a functional productive economy.
He attributed the collapse of most industries in the state to lack of public power supply and deliberate government policies that worked against industries, but assured that his administration is now working closely with industrialist to reverse the situation.
Earlier the Minister, Dr. Ortom observed that the state was endowed with the potential to spearhead the industrialisation of the country and assured him of the commitment of the Federal Government to partner with the organised private sector to drive the economy, support industrialists, create wealth and employment opportunities for the youth.
He explained that the visit was to interact with industrialists and identify areas Federal Government could provide necessary support and leverage to fast-track the overall industrialisation of the country.
