President of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Alhaji Ali Abatcha, said the success of the Presidential Task Team on Pension Reforms could only achieve the desired results if given a free hand to operate.
The President who stated this during a telephone conversation with our correspondent in Abuja, said since its inauguration, the committee led by Alhaji Maina has restored confidence in the minds of retired civil servants who have hitherto suffered untold hardship.
The NUP leader who however argued that the operations of the team which was constituted by the Head of Service of the Federation could suffer setbacks due to undue interference on policy matters and decisions reiterated the need to give the team a free hand to operate in the interest of the nation.
He reminded the in -coming HOS of the Federation who is the sole convener of the task team and other top government functionaries not to conceive any idea that could sabotage or jeopardise the good work embarked upon by the team.
The NUP boss also called on the team to be focused and shun any form of influence or criticisms in the course of discharging its responsibilities, just as he lamented that rather than constitute a snag in the team modus operandi, what the nation expects at a this crucial period was how to alleviate the travails of pensioners in the county.
He commended the team for early despatch of its members to the various states across the country to effect payment of pensions to retired civil servants.
