Salawu, who is national chairman of the Action Alliance (AA) canvassed for Yoruba nation to have 12 states in a true federal Nigeria and suggested the creation of more states in the region.

Afenifere chieftain stressed that since late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Adekunle Ajasin, Senator Abraham Adesanya and Chief Bola Ige died, there was a vacuum in Yorubaland as nobody is providing the direction to the race at this moment, noting that at appropriate time, a Yoruba leader would emerge.

He said that anybody that would assume that role must be honest and mature person who is ready to render selfless services to the people of the race.
“There is no quarrel about Yoruba leader except if anybody wanted to commit suicide then he may call himself Yoruba leader. At this point, nobody elects the Yoruba leader; they used to emerge naturally and, soon, the leader of the race will emerge.”
