Indication that the members of the organised labour in Anambra State, which consists the Trade Union Congress and the Nigeria Labour Congress may have commenced a war among themselves have emerged. While the former suspended its strike, the latter issticking to its gun and refusing to do same.
?
?The Trade Union Congress (TUC) had on Friday suspended its strike, calling on its members to return to work. The Comrade Peter Okafor-led TUC also accused his NLC co unterpart, Comrade Patrick Obianyo of selling out, abandoning the main motive of the strike to pursue a personal agenda.
?
?The crack in the organisations may have exposed the real motive for the strike which ?many stated had shown that the indefinite strike embarked upon by the labour force in the state had political undertone. It would be recalled that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had previously issued a press release, accusing some opposition politicians in the state of instigating workers to go on strike to discredit the Obi-led government.
?
?The International Society for Civil and Rule of Law (Intersociety) chairman, Comrade Emeka Umeagbalasi told our correspondent that what is happening between the two unions have shown that the strike is politically motivated. “The Anambra TUC clearly saw the hand-writing on the wall and retreated wisely to avoid facing the wrath of the Anambra public, which weighed heavily against the strike action clearly rooted on wrong premise.”
