The? All Nigeria Peoples Party,( ANPP), Enugu State Chapter,? yesterday flagged? off its ward and local government congresses for the forthcoming council polls in the state,? just as it called on the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, (ENSIEC),to make the polls credible.
Speaking at the event, the state secretary of the party, Mr. Paul C. Okafor, assured that ANPP was ready for the forthcoming elections.
He, however, charged ENSIEC to ensure that elections would? hold in all the polling booths.
Okafor who spoke after the meeting of the executive of the party which was attended by the party chairman, Chief Bartho Udeaba,? said they used the opportunity to tell the ENSIEC representative who participated in the meeting to ensure that they conducted free, fair and credible elections.
Mr. Okafor regretted that the PDP-led government has refused to allow the opposition to see the light of the day and appealed to the commission to make sure that election holds in all the wards.
“We are asking ENSIEC that the few candidates who summoned the courage to contest election should also be given level playing ground.? Let the officials conducting the election be available in the various polling booths on the day of election and let the ballot boxes and all electoral materials including the almighty election result sheets be present in the various polling units.
?“Let the election be credible and let people begin to see the PDP-led government as being serious about democracy. As far as ANPP is concerned, PDP is not serious about elections and they are not allowing Nigeria to grow democratically,” he stated.
He added,?? “We will continue to fight on until democracy is installed in Enugu State . It is not surprising that in Nigeria today, with more than 30 political parties and more than 10 active parties in Enugu State , it is only PDP everywhere.? We are asking the government to allow opposition to thrive so that they can measure whether they are performing or not.”
