The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Muhammad Garba has applauded the decision of the Bauchi State government to order for the completion of the Bauchi State NUJ secretariat located around Ahmadu Bello Way.
The NUJ president made the commendation in an interview with newsmen in Bauchi on his way to Taraba State in continuation of his familiarisation tour of all NUJ state offices,? where he said the union was happy that the Bauchi State government has ordered for the immediate completion of the NUJ secretariat that was abandoned about three years ago.
He applauded the good cordial relationship existing between the state government and journalists and called for the sustenance of the tempo as the only way to ensure rapid development in the state. He urged journalists to support the state government in its desire to execute programmes that would uplift the living standard of people.
?“I’m in Bauchi to see the level of work at state secretariat which we heard that the governor has given directive for the immediate completion of the work, hoping that we will come soon to commission the project.
Also, we are proud with the state council under its chairman Dahiru Muh’d for initiating the provision of borehole in the secretariat, so we want councils to continue providing meaningful programmes for the betterment of their members,” he added.
On the removal of oil subsidy by the government, the NUJ president said the union was in full support of the NLC decision on the matter, saying that no meaningful Nigerian would support the removal the subsidy. He added that if government shoud think of removing subsidy, it? must think of implementing positive programmes aim at boosting the economy of the country like in the agriculture and other? commercial activities,? not just to create unnecessary hardship to Nigerians.
