Succour has finally come the way of about 1,400 identified orphans and vulnerable children in dire need of support, especially those infected with HIV/Aids and selected destitute across the 17 Southern states.
?The Global Fund on its round nine consolidated grant through the Association for Reproductive and Family health (ARFH) in conjunction with the Association for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nigeria (AONN) supported the process of identifying these beneficiaries, according to its advocacy and media advisor, Mrs. Priscilla Nwachukwu, said the exercise was aimed at extending lifeline to the sick and vulnerable in the society in line with Biblical injunction.
In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND, the selection exercise, which was done sequel to an earlier package for selected persons in other parts of the country demonstrates the tenacity with which the trio picked up the challenge many in willingly.
She explained that the will to address the needs of vulnerable children in the affected region was largely driven by the desire of major stakeholders to fill the gaps in the quality and consistency of care provided.
She further stated that the identification programme would gradually cover the entire country, as the gesture was in continuation of the series of lifeline set aside for vulnerable children, Nwachukwu buttressed the fact that if government at all levels, Churches and concerned Nigerians acted in conviction and absolute commitment, poverty would be reduced.
