23 local government chairmen in Kaduna State have unanimously quashed the allegation levelled against them of a bribery scandal.
In a statement, the Makarfi local government caretaker chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Garba Sabon Gari, who spoke unbehalf of his colleagues, described the story published in one of the national dailies, which contends that the chairmen were alleged to have presented gifts and bribes to the members of the Kaduna House of Assembly for possible tenure elongation as baseless.
Alhaji Sabon Gari described the story as an attempt to tarnish their image and future political pursuit. saying that it was untrue.
He urged members of the House to overturn the report. “We are hereby denouncing this report published by a section of the media, alleging that we are engaging the members of
Kaduna House of Assembly with bribes and sundry gifts to elongate our tenure. This is not true,” he said.
The chairman also called on the media to always verify their stories before going to press. He said, “We are calling on journalists as professionals to always verify their stories, in order to avoid confusion, which is detrimental to our well being and the society, before publishing. We are by this story, apologising to the members of the Kaduna House of Assembly for this embrassment.”
It will be recalled that the tenure of the local government caretaker committee will elapse December ending.
