The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Femi Ajakaye, has said that the name of a former Head of State, late General Sani Abacha, will always be remembered whenever the issue of the creation of Ekiti State is being discussed.
Speaking at the thanksgiving ceremony to mark the first year of Dr. Kayode Fayemi in office as the governor of Ekiti State, held at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, Ajakaye said that the people of the state should be grateful to Abacha.
He said that despite so many atrocities allegedly committed by the late dictator, he was able to fulfil what God has sent him to do.
The clergy told the people to always give honour to whom honour is due by respecting their leaders because any government is constituted by God, saying that “legitimate government has its right but God should be accorded due respect too.”
He said that Christians and people of other faiths should be good citizens by paying their taxes for the development of the society.
However, he said that government business is call to service and demands sacrifice and urged Fayemi to lead right since governance is a pact between the government and the governed.
In his address, Fayemi thanked the people for their support and understanding and promised to bring more dividends of democracy to them.
