Akwa Ibom Govt Rewards Families Of Slain Police Officers With N6m

The Akwa Ibom Police Command on Monday in Uyo presented N6 million cash rewards to the families of six police officers killed recently in gun battles with armed robbers.

The families of the six deceased officers were given N1 million each in addition to post-humous certificates of commendation from the Commissioner of Police, Mr Solomon Arase.

Presenting the cash reward and certificates, Arase said the money was made available by Gov. Godswill Akpabio “as an appreciation for the selfless service of the deceased officers''.

He explained that the kind gesture of the state government was outside the insurance claims and terminal due of each of the? deceased officers.

Arase urged the berieved families to be consoled by the fact that the deceased policemen died gallantly as dedicated and loyal officers.

He announced that some of the criminals who killed the police officers had been arrested and would soon be arraigned for trial.

The commissioner thanked the state government for the honour done not only to the families of the deceased officers, but also the command.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the deceased officers include John Umbugabu and Vincent Enejere, who were both killed on July 17.

Others were Moshe Megbe and Pius Mathew, both of whom were killed by armed robbers at the premises of the state House of Assembly on Aug. 19, as well as Ekong Imoh and Akan Okon, who were killed in a gun battle with armed robbers on Aug. 23.
