One person was confirmed dead while over 30 persons sustained various degrees of injuries in multiple road accidents involving over five vehicles along the Lafia-Akwanga and Lafia-Shendam roads in Nasarawa State.
The first accident which happened at about 10am just a few metres away from ERCC Secondary School, Azuba, near Shabu, involved a Benue Links 18-seater bus, with registration number Benue XA 352-TSE? and another 18-seater bus marked Kebbi XA 183 SNA.
The second accident occurred around 11am at Yelwata village, near Adogi, along Lafia-Shendam road, involving a Mercedes Benz markded Lagos FR725 KJA and a Toyota Corolla, marked Katsina XA 461 BDN, in which one person died, while three persons sustained various degrees of injuries.
One of the victims in Benue Links, Osoja Udekor, blamed the Benue Links driver for the mishap, saying that he wanted to overtake 10 vehicles at a stretch, even when he saw that there was an oncoming vehicle.
“So as the driver could not manipulate back, the next thing was a head-on collision,” he said.
The victims were seen being attended to by medical personnel at the casualty unit of the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia.
The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mrs Sarah Ajenge, who confirmed the two incidents, attributed the mishap to reckless driving.
