The Minister of Power, Prof. Bart Nnaji, has ordered the immediate release of ?letters ?of promotion to all categories of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) workers in ?Enugu Zone.

A statement, signed by Mr Greyne Anosike, Head Media and Public Relations of the Ministry, stated that Nnaji gave the directive in Enugu during his working visit to Enugu and Owerri offices of PHCN.

The statement, made available to the ?News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, quoted the minister, as saying that the promotion will spur the staff to be more committed in their various operations.

Nnaji, who was represented by Mrs Ibukun Odusote, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, inspected the progress of work at the 45MVA 132/33/11KV in Owerri, which was gutted by fire about a month ago.

Available information showed that the burnt transformer was possibly installed in 1967 and had not been serviced ever since.

The minister said that hundreds of industries in the area that were not operational, would become functional if constant power supply was assured.

Nnaji urged electricity workers throughout the country to be dedicated, adding that their inputs were necessary in the achievement of the Nigerian project in the power sector.

Mr Suleiman Yahaya, the Chief Executive Officer, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), conducted ?the minister round the burnt transformer.

He said that engineers were trying to install a new transformer and gave the assurance that electricity would be restored in a few weeks time.

Yahaya ?thanked the minister for his speedy intervention by ordering for the release of a new transformer to address the problem. (NAN)
