The National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) has joined its counterparts all over the world to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) and National Coordinator, NAPEP, Alh. Mukhtar Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, said that the 2011 IDEP theme: “From Poverty to Sustainability? People at the Center of Inclusive Development,”? was to take stock and assess the progress made so far towards achieving the target of eradicating poverty as specified in the MDG’s.
“The objective of the IDEP 2011 is to illustrate the important and tangible ways in which people living in poverty can simultaneously protect the sustainability of their environment and break the cycle of poverty, and how these efforts can be supported and scaled up” he stated.
The national coordinator stressed the need to draw attention to the importance of poverty eradication for building a sustainable future for all.
