An early morning disagreement between Catechist Jacob Ndifon Ese of the Roman? Catholic Church, Akparabong in Ikom and the Nigerian Police over the stop and check exercise, tagged “operation show your motor particulars” might have caused a fracas between the police and members of the cyclists union.
In an ensuing exchange of gunfire, between the police and the union, a cyclist, Pius Akpanke, aged? 25, lost his life while the Catchiest,? Ese, was critically wounded on his forehead.
He is now on admission at the intensive care unit of County Hospital, Ikom.
?Medical Superintendent, Dr. Michael Nkwam,? who carried out an operation on him to extract the bullet, said that the bullet was still lodged in the head and? explained that he might be transferred to the Neuro-psychiatry Hospital, Enugu for further treatment.
?Meanwhile, the body of late? Akpanke, the cyclist, has since been deposited at the Holy Family General Hospital, Ikom by the Police.
