The vice chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. O. G. Oshidin, has called for more funds for federal universities in the country.
?Oshodin made the call at the opening ceremony of a three-day retreat for governing council and principal officers of the University held at the Le Merdien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
He? stated that the annual budgetary allocations to the federal universities were inadequate for the smooth running of the institutions.
To make up for the shortfall, he urged universities to improve on their internally generated revenue.
?“We therefore need to look inwards so as to raise substantial funds and carry out our activities.
Presently, our internally generated revenue is derived from the payment of school charges by the students and other income from our revenue generating units and consultancy services,’’ he stated.
