Former Super Eagles star and assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi has hit out at the Nigeria Football Federation for delaying or playing ‘politics’ with the sack of Samson Siasia even after the coach failed to deliver on the mandate given him.
He wonders why Samson Siasia is still the coach of the Eagles despite failing to meet up with the performance clause in his contract. He also questioned the manner Siasia handled star players in his team.
“Falcons coach did not perform and she was sacked, so why is the NFF still leaving the coach who did not qualify for the Nations Cup?” asked Amokachi.
Amokachi also queried Siasia’s professionalism. “Nigeria needs a manager who can manage the players, not someone who keeps fighting with them.”
He was making reference to Siasia’s much-publicised rows with his players especially Osaze Odemwingie and Vincent Enyeama.
According to Amokachi, he will apply for the Eagles top job once the post is declared vacant. “I have not applied for the job, but certainly I will do that when the position is declared vacant.
I have the certificate and I am now a coaches’ instructor in Europe. I have been there before even winning the WAFU Cup with unknown players. I brought out players like Fengor Ogude and Ahmed Musa. I can manage them effectively.”
Sunday Oliseh, Amokachi’s teammate in their glory days had also put himself forward for the job, but Amokachi is questioning his coaching pedigree. “He doesn’t have the pedigree.
He’s just like Siasia. There is a difference between coaching under-age teams and the Super Eagles,” argued Amokachi.
