With the continuous expression of frustrations over the falling state of football in Nigeria, erstwhile board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Imo State FA chairman, Amanze Uchegbulam has asked football authorities to look inward and beg of them they have offended for forgiveness. He said until that is done, the woes will continue.
Uchegbulam stated this yesterday in a chat with sports reporters at the Federal High Court Abuja, where they appeared to face charges brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He said what is happening to Nigeria’s football at the moment goes to show that God is not happy with certain people who betrayed others to get to the corridors of football administration.
He said unless those in charge of the country’s administration realise this and beg for pardon from God, Nigerians will not witness progress in the beautiful game. “To say what is happening to football is spiritual, I don’t know. But people should ask themselves questions and find out if they have offended anybody. God is watching us. If you plot for people’s downfall there are consequences, but when you cry to God, He will listen.
All those that conspired against us must surely confess and apologise to Nigerians because we did not do anything wrong,” he said.
Uchegbulam, who was the first vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation during the administration of Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Lulu, described Lulu’s tenure as the best thing that has ever happened to Nigerian football.
“I think they said we were not good, but nobody has attempted to beat our record, not only in Nigeria. Our board was the only board who qualified Nigeria to all FIFA’s competitions. Even Brazil cannot boast of this record.”
