The Sokoto State police command has paraded 11 thugs arrested by its officers and men during the visit of Senator Abubakar Gada to the state on Sunday.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Almustapha Sani, who could not disclose the camp the thugs were supporting said they confessed to being hired by some politicians in the state to cause havoc during the visit.
He said although Gada was given permission to open his campaign office, the command did not give him the permission to hold rally as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had placed an embargo on campaign till January.
Meanwhile, a Sokoto gubernatorial aspirant under the banner of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Gada, has dismissed the claim by elders and executives of the party from Gada local government area that he had been suspended from the party.
Senator Gada stated this yesterday while addressing a press conference at his house in Sokoto as part of activities marking the inauguration of his gubernatorial campaign office in the state.
He said the constitution of the party did not allow anybody to suspend any member without due process.
He said his visit had shown that he enjoyed the support of many members of the PDP going by the large crowd that received him upon his arrival at the Sokoto airport, asserting that he was not disturbed by the power of incumbency enjoyed by his opponent, Governor Aliyu Wamakko, as it was God that gave power to whom he wished.
