Niger State Governor, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has described the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) as the most important agency for fighting corruption and ensuring that people conform to acceptable norms in the society.
Aliyu stated this yesterday when the Commissioner in charge of asset Declaration of the Bureau, Mr. Stephen Okefula paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Minna.
He added that the CCB was adding value to what his administration stood for, which was zero tolerance for corruption.
The governor assured the Bureau of maximum support throughout the duration of its work and immediately directed all political appointees and top government officials to go and declare their assets as government would not condone lousy attitude from any public official.
In his remark the commissioner said the Bureau was in the state on field verification of claims and submission made by political and public office holders.
According to him, the Bureau wanted to do a thorough job in order to bring corruption to a very low level, adding that the verification of assets would provide a data bank of what the public servants possessed.
He stated that the exercise was not aimed at victimising anyone and warned all public servants to be truthful so as not to incur punitive measures.
