To aid easy access to health care in rural communities, especially as it concerns?? curbing the upsurge in maternal mortality, the federal government has initiated a midwifery scheme.
Records available indicate that women and children in rural communities are mostly victims. This led to the inauguration of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency( NPHCDA) aimed at? facilitating improved access to basic health care in communities.
The South -South coordinator of the scheme, Dr. Okposen B. Bassey disclosed this during the inauguration of a 12-member committee of Ebelle Health Centre, Igueben local government area in Edo State.
Members of the committee, comprising of local residents, are to partner with the midwives of the centre and the local government council for effective service delivery.
Bassey said the policy was in line with federal government’s plan to ensure that each state, local government and ward should have a functional primary health care centre, including four supporting midwives.
He assured that government had also make provision for free drugs delivery and other kits for expectant mothers.
