The chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Ambassador Ahmed Al-Gazali has observed among others that the problem limiting the nation’s development and tendency of realising Vision 202020 is the poor quality of service delivery in the civil service; which lacks the wit to compete in the 21st century.
Amb. Al-Gazali said this in an interview with LEADERSHIP WEEKEND recently in Abuja in which he pointed that, “for Nigeria to move forward and take her place in the committee of nations, it must embrace a very competitive civil service that can withstand global challenges as well as the 21st century challenges”.
In addition, he stated that to achieve global competiveness, one needs a well informed and competent public service. The survival of the nation depends on this because quite a lot is happening in the world now.
Take for instance, the climate change which has brought a lot of flooding problem throughout the country and that of desert encroachment, you will need a very competent civil service to meet the service needed and advised the policy makers effectively.
He warned that it is this inadequacies that brew crisis in the nation, while citing an example with what is happening in other nations and in the Middle East, and queried if Nigerians think it was not going to affect us.
