Rotary International, district 9125 at the weekend conferred distinguish service award on the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Chief Pius Anyim and Chairman of LEADERSHIP Newspapers Group Ltd, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah, for what it described as their meritorious service and immense contribution to the development of the country,
Also honoured with the award of excellence by the club at its 28th anniversary investiture ceremony were Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu; minister of power, Prof Barth Nnaji; Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa and deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Kingsley Moghalu.
Others include former Benue State governor, Senator George Akume; Director-General of National Sports Commission, Dr. Patrick Ekeji; Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu, Senator Ayogu Eze, Senator Clever Ikisikpo and Alicia Herbert.
At the event, Rotary International, Abuja also conducted a transition of its leadership with the investiture of Rotarian Chijioke Ekechukwu as its president for the 2011-2012 sessions.
In his valedictory address, outgoing president, Rotarian Ededem Hogan, said with this, the club had fulfilled its plans in club, vocational and international service, noting that a critical way to demonstrate sound leadership was to create the structures for a greater brighter future.
Receiving the award, on behalf of the Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of LEADERSHIP Newspapers Group, Managing Director of the media organisation, Mr. Abraham Nda-Isaiah said, while the award was well deserved, it had gone a long way to corroborate the sky rocketing growth the paper had witnessed over the years, as confirmed by two newspaper of the year awards LEADERSHIP had bagged.
He urged the leadership of Rotary Club to keep the spirit of recognising excellent performance in the country burning, “as it will spur up, even the dullest of leaders and institutions in the country to brace up in the business of nation building”. He added that it was for this reason that LEADERSHIP had strived to maintain what it stood for, “For God and Country”.?
